Accomplishments of Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Albania. She grew up mostly under the care of only her mother, since her father passed away when she was only eight years old. She began to feel called into ministry at age twelve and six years later left for Ireland to join the Loreto order of nuns. After a short period of training in Ireland, she moved to India to become sister Teresa, and later Mother Teresa.

The accomplishments of Mother Teresa began when she was young. She began teaching school when she was still sister Teresa in the slums of India. However at this time she still resided within the walls of the convent. Eventually Teresa convinced her leaders to let her leave the convent so that she could serve her community more directly.

She learned some basic medical skills at the mission in Patna, and then headed for the slums. Reaching out to orphans and lepers, Teresa eventually built a network of helpers. Together, they taught the underprivileged of India, and providing aid to those in need. More than simply helping directly, Mother Teresa's accomplishments included starting charities and organizations to help people, and provided an example to inspire them.

For example she had her own order of nuns established -- the Missionaries of Charity. These women began to wear the white and blue saris that Mother Teresa would become famous for, and spread God's love throughout India.

The Missionaries of Charity in turn founded a home for orphans. Emphasis was placed on education and forming the children into responsible adults, so that if they were not adopted, they would still be able to function well in society.
