Facts About Mother Teresa

Agnes Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, better known as Mother Teresa, was one of the most selfless servants of humanity throughout all of recorded history. Her goal in life was to simply serve those around her, and not make a name for herself or get any sort of personal gain from her actions, apart from the inner satisfaction of helping someone less fortunate. However, because of the magnitude of her work, her actions have become well known, and Teresa herself has become quite famous around the world. Because of this, facts about Mother Teresa are abundant and easily obtained by anyone who wishes to be inspired by this amazing woman.

One such amazing fact is that although Mother Teresa essentially only owned the clothes on her back, she raised millions of dollars for others. Most people, although toiling for their entire lives for their own benefit, will never see this kind of money. Teresa raised it by being a vehicle of mercy.

Mother Teresa worked primarily in India, but once, she demonstrated her selfless nature in Israel. A battle between the Israeli Army and PLO fighters began to put a hospital of children in harm's way. The battle, if left to continue, would have mostly likely resulted in the destruction of the hospital and cost the lives of the children. Teresa was able to negotiate a temporary cease fire, and removed the children to a safe location.

Although she has passed away, the accomplishments of Mother Teresa live on. From a group of 12 helpers at the beginning of her ministry, the Missionaries of Charity have grown to over 4000, and have spread to over one hundred countries.
